Clay Reeves retired as a high school math teacher in May, 2021 after 55 years of service – wonderful years, wonderful experiences. He was a certified English teacher as well as a math teacher, and he has always had an affection for the theater and performing arts. He wrote and directed numerous school plays and worked with students in duet-acting competitions as well as one-act play contests. All those things have contributed to Clay’s love of writing and encouraged him to get into self-publishing after retirement.
When asked what he was going to do when he retired, Clay’s favorite response has always been: “I’ll do whatever I want to do. I won’t always be tied down to a set schedule and let my creative side flourish. I will write when I want to write, at my own pace. And I discovered long ago that I couldn’t write what others want me to write; I just have to let it flow, so to speak, and let the story take me where it wants to go. Do my characters and scenes reach out and grab the reader? I hope so – I know I’m getting better and better with every effort, and I try very hard to make a scene follow a reasonable, interesting direction and reach a satisfying conclusion. Besides writing, my free time is devoted to my family – I can take the dogs for a walk or the wife out to dinner, or just take a nap!”
